About BLW Pottery

Barbara L. Walters, a retired Department of Defense civilian and U.S. Air Force veteran, first sat at a pottery wheel in 2019 at Roadrunner Ceramics - and something clicked. Even when 2020 forced a pause, the pull toward clay never left. What started as curiosity quickly grew into a God-given passion that continues to shape her life. She returned to the studio with fresh determination, spending hours learning new forms, experimenting with glazes, and exploring the endless techniques the craft has to offer. For Barbara, pottery is both therapy and adventure: the quiet rhythm of the wheel, the feel of clay taking shape, and the creative freedom to chase an idea wherever it leads. Each piece holds a little discovery - a reminder that beauty can be formed, re-formed, and found again.

“Every piece is uniquely handmade.”

Raku vs Utility Glazed Products

Barbara especially loves the raku process and it's unique effects. Above is one of her frogs taken out at about 1700°, placed on combustible material and put into reduction to create a sheen and a variety of effects. Raku items are porous due to the lower firing temperatures.  Barbara uses a process that makes these products water tight for plants, but they are not for food or beverage use. Mugs, bowls, plates and other food safe products are glazed with food safe glazes and fired to appropriate temperatures for the type of clay used.
